You know, GW is far, far, far from the only thing Jeremy Soule has ever done.

Well, yeah. I guess I should have iterated it, "showcased outside of video games."

OUCH he's responsible for icewinddale, one of the reason i got hooked to icewinddale was the music.

Jeremy Soule's music has a signature style. One of the reasons I got hooked on GW initially is because how much the music reminded me of Morrowind, possibly the only other game I have played for over 1000 hours. He is a talented guy, no doubt, but I think the field of orchestral scores for RPGs can afford to widen a bit. Especially for RPGs based on English/Euro archetypes, I like the upbeat format Howard Shore used for LotR more.

I prefer Jesper Kyd to Jeremy Soule. I don't think anything is going to beat the music from the hitman games for me. i loved the music so much in those games.

Ya, while playing EotN I was struck by how some of the music (Norn areas, I recall) sounded like a retread of Neverwinter Nights.

It depends on the deal he and ANet had. If he was paid a salary for the music or sold the copyright then ANet owned it. However, if he did what a lot of musicians do and only sold the license to use it he is free to license the same music to other people as well - in which case ANet already got a huge price break.
In any case, the music is one part of Guild War i really enjoy and I am that Jeremy is getting exposure if various venues.

It all depends on the deal that was struck when the composer signed the contract. It may have a strict policy for a gaming plateform, but yet be open for future distribution on other media areas. Gails interest strikes me as odd though. I watched big fish and saw all the commercials as well but did not catch it. Anyone got Tivo?

It wasn't a tv spot. It was a half hour documentary after "Big Fish."

Hmm, I should check it out. I saw the tin man preview a billion times on TiVo, but I always fast forwarded through it so there's no sound =).

I doubt Gaile has access to all the contracts involved in Guild Wars, and without knowing exactly what they say this does look suspicious. Its probably nothing though.

Sorry, I totally forgot this thread. Yes, the use of the Guild Wars music for the preview was A-Ok, totally approved, and foretold in advance.

Can someone post a snippet of that music then?
Guilty of playing without music I'm afraid
